Cuba, South of Florida and Bahamas
21.7N 79WThe Republic of Cuba, an island nation in the Caribbean, stretches across the middle of this image. The nation of Cuba consists of the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos.
To the north of Cuba lies the United States and the Bahamas. Here, the southern tip of Florida, USA, can be seen at the upper left, with sediments seeping out of the wetlands of the Everglades. Some of the islands of the Bahamas are visible at the upper right. The water around these islands appears lighter blue due to the Bahama Banks, limestone platforms above which the water is significantly shallower than that of the surrounding sea.
