Recent Snowfall over Mount Fuji, Japan
The most striking feature of this image is the snow over Mount Fuji and the mountains to the north and west of the city of Tokyo (center).
Upon examing the image detail, the eastern face of the volcano appears bright white, while its western side looks grey. This is due to the position of the sun, low in the sky, when the image was taken: the eastern face receives the light and casts a shadow, covering the other side.
Moving northeastward, a slight phytoplankton bloom can be observed off the coast on the center right. Heading inland, to the west of the bloom, Lake Kasumigaura can be seen.
