Vegetation Index of Western Europe by Mediterranean Sea45.3N 3.7E
This FAPAR image stretches across western Europe, along the Mediterranean Sea. From left to right, the visible countries are Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy. Several islands can also be observed: Corsica (above, belonging to France) Sardinia (below, belonging to Italy) by the right edge, and two of Spain’s Balearic Islands: Majorca and Minorca (near the bottom edge).
Spain shows the lowest vegetation index, with much of the land south of the Pyrenees appearing white to yellow. On the other hand, the terrain by the Pyrenees themselves, on the border of Spain and France, and the terrain by France’s Massif Central, as well as an area of land in Italy south of the Alps, show the the highest index (reddish brown). The majority of the land across France, Italy and Switzerland all shows a good index (green).
