Vegetation Index of Northeastern Brazil

6.8S 36.5W

February 4th, 2012 Category: Vegetation Index

Brazil - January 2nd, 2012

This FAPAR image shows the vegetation index of northeastern Brazil; the northern coastline can be observed at the top of the full image. Visible at the center left is a large artificial reservoir on the São Francisco River.

The vegetation index is higher along the coastline: mostly green (good photosynthetic activity) with some rusty red patches (high photosynthetic activity). It appears lower further inland (yellow), although this area is also interspersed with green patches indicating good activity. The activity along the river appears good, although it is low around the shores of the reservoir.
