Vegetation Index of Japan’s Honshu and Hokkaido Islands

38.8N 140.6E

October 5th, 2010 Category: Vegetation Index

Japan- August 27th, 2010

This FAPAR image portrays the vegetation index of Japan.’s main two islands: Honshu (below) and Hokkaido (above). The country shows an almost uniformly good index, as it is mostly green in color.

Some areas further inland, near the mountains, and on the island of Hokkaido, appear rusty red. This indicates a high vegetation index. Very few areas of low photosynthetic activity, yellow in color, can be observed. They appear mostly limited to coastal cities, such as Tokyo.
