India - March 5th, 2010

This FAPAR image shows the vegetation index of much of India and parts of Sri Lanka (lower right corner). The index is highest along the west coast, by the mountains of the Western Ghats, where the color appears dark green to red.

The east coast is a lighter shade of green, indicating less photosynthetic activity. The center of the country, on the other hand, appears yellow to white, indicating a low vegetation index.
