Vegetation Index of Argentina Near Andes Mountains30.7S 62.8W
This FAPAR image shows the vegetation index of western-central Argentina, near the Andes Mountains. Visible near the center of the image is the Mar Chiquita, an endorheic salt lake located in the province of Córdoba, in central Argentina. It is the largest of the naturally occurring saline lakes in Argentina, and occupies the southern part of a large depression.
The vegetation index is generally good (green), with some intense areas of high photosynthetic activity (rusty red) visible near the foothills of the Andes. The mountains at higher altitudes, however, show a low index (yellow), and the photosynthetic activity around Mar Chiquita is also low.
