High Vegetation Index Along Slopes of Tenasserim Hills, Myanmar and Thailand – November 18th, 201117.6N 98.2E
This FAPAR image shows the vegetation index of Myanmar (left) and Thailand (right). Visible in the lower left quadrant is the sediment-filled Gulf of Martaban, in Myanmar.
The vegetation index is generally good (green) throughout the image, with some areas of low (yellow) activity, particularly at the high altitudes of the Himalayas (top). The index is highest (rusty red) along the slopes of the Tenasserim Hills (or Tenasserim Range). Despite their relatively scant altitude these mountains form an effective barrier between Thailand and Myanmar in their northern and central region, extending to the Kra Isthmus into the Malay peninsula.
