Hurricane Norbert (15E) approaches Baja California
On October 7th, Norbert was upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane. It is expected to turn into a major hurricane on October 8th.
As of 8:00PM PDT yesterday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, it was located about 500mi (805km) south of the southmost part of Baja California. It it is moving west-northwest at 9kt (10mph, 17km/h), and it is expected to continue along that path through Wednesday. On Thursday , however, it is forecasted to take a turn towards the northwest.
Norbert’s maximum sustained winds have increased to 90 knots (105 mph, 165 km/h), with stronger gusts. It has hurricane-force winds that extend 30 mi (45 km) from its center, and tropical storm-force winds that reach up to 105 mi (165 km) from its center. It’s minimum central pressure is 970 millibars (28.64 inches).
