Tropical Cyclone 12P (Ellie) is causing heavy rains and flash flooding across north Queensland, Australia, reported Australia’s Courier Mail.

These conditions are expected to continue over the next 72 hours.

The images here show the system 36 hours ago, before it organized and made landfall.

The category one cyclone hit Mission Beach today, between Cairns and Townsville, just after midnight local time.

Although the Australian weather bureau has reported that the system is weakening, it is expected to move slowly and remain over land throughout the day.

The Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled its tropical cyclone warning; however, it has issued a severe weather warning for coastal and inland areas between Cardwell and Bowen.

Fortuntely, the cyclone has not brought the severe, destructive winds that were expected. However, it is causing extensive damage to public infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Several towns and highways have been cut off by floods.
