As of 5:00PM IST, 08S had weakened from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. Its last reported position was 390 nautical miles west-southwest of La Reunion, after having tracked southward at 16 knots over a six-hour period. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center will issue no further warnings for 08S.

Here, Eric can be seen weakening and moving out to sea, while Fanele is still threatening the southwestern Madagascar coast.

Top News Indonesia reported that Tropical Cyclone Eric made landfall on Monday, January 19th, in the eastern Fenerive-Est region of Madagascar, with wind speeds of around 100 kilometres per hour.

Precautions, such as closing government buildings, schools and shops in the area, and deliberately suspending power supplies, were taken. There have been no reports major damage or injuries.

However, people in the Southwest experienced more problems due to Tropical Cyclone Fanele: heavy rains caused widespread flooding that left close to 250 people homeless in the Sofia region as of January 20th.
