Tropical Cyclone Rashmi (04B)
Tropical Cyclone 04B located approximately 150 nm south of Kolkata, india has tracked northward while accelerating to 12 knots over the past six hours.
Animated METEOSAT imagery depicts improved organization with deep convective banding wrapping into a well defined low level circulation center (LLCC). A 260409z Ascat pass depicts a tightly wrapped LLCC with 35 knot unflagged winds, however a 261119z SSMIS image and recent animated water vapor imagery show enhanced convection on the western portion of the system indicating that the storm has strengthened slightly over the past few hours. current intensity is based on Dvorak estimates of 35kts knots and scatterometry data as well as the recent intensification trend evident in the imagery products.
Although forward track speed has increased slightly, the overall forecast philosophy remains unchanged since the previous warning. The system is expected to track northward along the western flank of the mid-level sub-tropical ridge and will make landfall near tau 12 while accelerating north-northeastward as it enters the mid-latitude westerly flow.
Tropical Cyclone 04B is expected to dissipate over land near tau 24. Objective aids are in good agreement concerning track and intensity.
