As of 11 p.m. AST August 31 (0300 UTC September 1),  Hurricane Kirk (11L) is located within 30 nautical miles of 33.9°N 49.5°W, about 905 mi (1455 km) south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland; about 1285 mi (2070 km) west of The Azores.

Maximum sustained winds are 70 knots (80 mph, 130 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 988 mbar (hPa; 29.18 InHg), and the system is moving north-northeast at 14 kt (16 mph, 26 km/h). Hurricane force winds extend up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center of Kirk while tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center.
