As of 5 p.m. AST (2100 UTC) September 1,  Hurricane Kirk (11L) is located within 30 nautical miles of 39.5°N 44.3°W, about 665 mi (1070 km) SE of Cape Race, Newfoundland; about 935 mi (1505 km) WNW of The Azores.

Maximum sustained winds are 55 knots (65 mph, 100 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 997 mbar (hPa; 29.44 InHg), and the system is moving northeast at 25 kt (29 mph, 46 km/h). Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center of Kirk.
