China - June 25th, 2009

A great deal of tan sediments spill from the Huangpu River, a tributary of the Yangtze, into the East China Sea near Shanghai on the Yangtze River Delta.

Sediments are also present, though in a lesser quantity, along the shores of the Shandong Peninsula (above center) and the Bohai Sea.

Inland, near the delta, Lake Tai appears greenish tan. Lake Tai, literally “Grand Lake”, is on the Yangtze Delta Plain, on the border of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

Eastern China - March 19th, 2009

This radar (ASAR) image shows the ocean currents off the eastern coast of China’s Zhejiang Province, near the mouth of the Lin River (above, center). Many ships, which look like small white dots, can be seen moving up and down the river, and in and out of its mouth.

The area near the coast appears quite flat, whereas the radar highlights the contours of the more mountainous terrain to the West.

Populated areas, bright white, include the Jiaojiang District off the southern shore of the river, and the Luqiao District, further south.
