Sediments and Phytoplankton by Coast of Argentine Patagonia

Argentina – June 22nd, 2013

Phytoplankton and sediments float in the waters of the Atlantic, parallel to the coast of Argentina. Sediments are particularly dense along the coast by Bahía Blanca (upper right quadrant), while two other mixed plumes can be viewed trailing off the Valdes Peninsula (center) and the southern end of the San Jorge Gulf.

Phytoplankton Bloom Still Present Between Valdés Peninsula and San Jorge Gulf, Argentina

Argentina – December 13th, 2012

Over two months after its first appearance, a phytoplankton bloom is still visible off the coast of Argentina (click here for previous images). The teal green bloom is situated between the Valdés Peninsula (above) and the San Jorge Gulf (below). Some darker blue strands can be seen east of the main bloom, particularly upon opening the full image.

Argentina – November 28th, 2012

The faint remnants of a phytoplankton in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Argentine Patagonia (click here for previous images) can be seen in this image. The lighter color of the water in and northeast of the San Jorge Gulf, south of the Valdes Peninsula, is due to sun glint. The phytoplankton, can be seen through the glint and in the full image near the right edge.

Argentina – November 13th, 2012

The phytoplankton bloom that has been present off the Argentine coast since October (click here for previous images) continues to flourish, adding green and blue hues to the waters of the Atlantic. The image stretches from the Valdes Peninsula (top center) to the Falkland Islands, or Islas Malvinas (bottom right).

Argentina – November 4th, 2012

A green and blue phytoplankton bloom continues to flourish off the coast of Argentine Patagonia (click here for previous images of the bloom). Also visible here is some blue phytoplankton growth in the San Matías Gulf (upper left), an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean bordered by the Río Negro Province to the north and west, and the Valdes Peninsula of the Chubut Province to the south.
