Visible near the bottom edge of this image is the reservoir creatd by the Serra da Mesa Dam, an embankment dam on the Tocantins River near Minaçu, in Goiás, Brazil. The dam creates the largest reservoir by volume in Brazil, with a capacity of 54,400,000,000 m3 (1.92×1012 cu ft) and surface area of 1,784 km2 (689 sq mi).

The border between the states of Goiás and Mato Grosso is marked by the dark brown area west of the reservoir. In Mato Grosso, the terrain appears mostly mixed between agricultural lands, some of which were deforested, and forests along rivers such as the Ronuro River, visible near the left edge carrying tan sediments.
