The Pilliga Nature Reserve in New South Wales, Australia, is under threat of fire. Here, a large fires can be seen burning in the southern part of the forest, with at least two others fires visible further towards center of the woodlands.

A bushfire burning out of control near Coonabarabran has jumped the Newell Highway, threatening areas of the Pilliga Nature Reserve, says the Rural Fire Service (RFS). The Redbank North fire is burning 35km northeast of the town.

The State Forests of The Pilliga, commonly known as the Pilliga Scrub, constitute some 3000 km2 of semi-arid woodland in temperate north-central New South Wales, Australia. It is the largest such continuous remnant in the state.

Countless fields create tan, green and brown checked patterns across the land of northeastern New South Wales, Australia. Agriculture is spread throughout this state, except in the western third.

New South Wales produces a large share of Australia’s hay, fruit, legumes, lucerne, maize, nuts, wool, wheat, oats, oilseeds (about 51%), poultry, rice (about 99%), vegetables, fishing including oyster farming, and forestry including wood chips.

The cotton industry is centred in the Namoi Valley in northwestern New South Wales, although there is also a large cotton-growing area in the upper part of this image.

The brown, non-cultivated land in the lower portion of the image is the Pilliga Nature Reserve, mostly located in White County.
