Moscow, the capital and most populous city of Russia, appears as an expansive white area on the right side of this image. It is also the most populous city on the continent of Europe and the seventh largest city proper in the world.

It is located by the Moskva River in the Central Federal District, in the European part of Russia, and sits on the junction of three big geological platforms. Upon opening the full image, the Moskva River can be seen winding through the metropolitan area. It has a length of 503 km and a drainage basin with an area of 17,600 kmĀ².
