The Mill Fire, located 10 miles west of Stonyford, in the Mendocino National Forest, is now 20% contained, although it has burned 27,122 acres. The fire is burning in timber (litter and understory) and heavy mixed brush. Although it has a high potential for growth, firefighters hope to contain the blaze by Friday.

Some residences in Fouts Springs, Board Camp Spring, Stonyford and Century Ranch are threatened. Smoke generation from the firing operation expected to switch directions to the South moving into the Sacramento Valley.

A plume of smoke from a fire north of the San Francisco Bay, California, can be seen blowing to the west. The blaze has been named the Mill Fire. It is burning in northwestern Colusa County in the Mendocino National Forest.

The fire showed significant growth yesterday, driven by hot, dry, conditions. Growth was predominately to the east and north. Fire behavior including active torching, crown runs, and spotting up to one half mile in advance of the main fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Its size is estimated at 16,000 acres, and it is 35% contained.

Evacuations are in effect for the communities of Fouts Springs, Bonnie View, and Board Camp Springs and campgrounds within the Upper Letts Lake area. Portions of the community of Stonyford are under voluntary evacuation. An Area Closure is in effect for the Mendocino National Forest for all roads, trails, recreational facilities within the Grindstone Ranger District.
