Plumes of smoke can be seen from fires in the state of Mato Grosso, in western Brazil. The two main fires, best observed in the full image, can be seen in the lower left and upper right quadrants, releasing smoke westward. Between the two fires is a tract of heavily forested land through which the Ronuro River flows.

Fires continue to blaze across Brazil, burning land in the states of Rondônia, Mato Grosso and Amazonas (click here for previous images). These fires are likely agricultural, set by farmers to clear land for crops, and may be contributing to problems of deforestation in the region.

Fires are burning across central Brazil. Here, the upper half of the image is covered by a veil of smoke intermingled with popcorn clouds, while multiple individual blazes can be spotted in a horizontal line across the middle of the image. The fires are located near the borders of the states of Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso and Rondônia (clockwise from upper left quadrant). The plumes of smoke they are emitting blow in a generally westerly direction.

This image shows fires near the Ribeirão Crisóstomo River, near the border between the Brazilian states of Tocantins (right) and Mato Grosso (left). Winds carry the plumes of smoke from the fires towards the east-southeast. Upon opening the full image, multiple other blazes can be observed.
