Ireland - March 5th, 2010

This image reaches from the mountainous western coastal regions of Ireland to the country’s green interior interspersed with dark blue lakes. In the full image, the east coast is visible as well.

On the west coast, greenish sediments spill from the Shannon Estuary (Irish: Loch Luimnigh), a large estuary where the River Shannon flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The estuary has Limerick at its head (appearing greyish here).

Its seaward limits are marked by Loop Head to the north and Kerry Head to the south. The estuary defines the main boundary between County Kerry/County Limerick to the south and County Clare to the north.
