Madagascar - May 23rd, 2011

The golden tan line crossing the lower part of this image is the sediment-laden Linta River, in southern Madagascar. The river’s mouth is located by a geographical feature known as the Fenambosy Chevron.

The Fenambosy Chevron is one of four chevron-shaped land features on the southwest coast of Madagascar, near the tip of the country, 180 metres high and 5 km inland.

Chevrons such as Fenambosy have been hypothesized as providing evidence of “megatsunamis” caused by comets or asteroids crashing into Earth.
