The waters of the Gulf of Martaban, in southern Myanmar, are colored tan from sediments, mainly from the Salween Sittaung and Yangon Rivers. Other sediments can be observed along the peninsula shared by Myanmar (left) and Thailand (right).

That part of southern Thailand consists of the narrow Kra Isthmus that widens into the Malay Peninsula. The east part of the landbridge belongs to Thailand, while the west part belongs to the Tanintharyi division of Myanmar. To the west of the Isthmus is the Andaman Sea, and to the east is the Gulf of Thailand.
