Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Russia - June 30th, 2010

Parts of northwestern Russia (upper right quadrant) and southern Finland (top center) as well as the countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (moving southwestward down the coast) can be seen here.

Also visible are several bodies of water, including the Gulf of Riga, a bay of the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Estonia (left, with a rounded base); the Gulf of Finland, between Finland and Estonia (northeast of the Gulf of Riga, with a more rectangular shape); Lake Peipsi-Pihkva, on the border between Estonia and Russia (south of the Gulf of Finland); and Lake Ladoga, in Russia (upper right corner).

The city of Saint Petersburg, Russia, is visible as a grey area at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. Upon opening the full image, the Neva River can be seen passing through the city. Also visible in the full image near St. Petersburg is Kotlin Island, connected to the mainland by shoals and bridges to the north and south.
