As of 10 p.m. CDT August 30 (0300 UTC August 31),  Tropical Depression Isaac (09L) is located within 20 nautical miles of 33.5°N 93.0°W, about 85 mi (1355 km) northeast of Shreveport, Louisiana; about 95 mi (150 km) south-southwest of Little Rock, Arkansas. Maximum sustained winds are 25 knots (30 mph, 45 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 998 mbar (hPa; 29.47 InHg), and the system is moving north at 9 kt (10 mph, 16 km/h).

As of 10 p.m. CDT August 29 (0300 UTC August 30), Tropical Storm Isaac (09L)  is located within 20 nautical miles of 30.3°N 91.2°W, about 15 mi (25 km) south of Baton Rouge, and about 70 mi (110 km) west-northwest of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Maximum sustained winds are 50 knots (60 mph, 95 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 980 mbar (hPa; 28.94 InHg), and the system is moving northwest at 5 kt (6 mph, 9 km/h). Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km) from the center of Isaac.

At about 16:20 UTC on August 28, Isaac attained hurricane status about 75 mi (115 km) south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, based on data from the Hurricane Hunters.

As of 12 p.m. CDT (1700 UTC) August 29, Hurricane Isaac (09L) is located within 15 nautical miles of 29.7°N 90.8°W, about 10 mi (15 km) northwest of Houma, Louisiana and about 45 mi (75 km) west-southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Maximum sustained winds are 65 knots (75 mph, 120 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 973 mbar (hPa; 28.73 InHg), and the system is moving northwest at 5 kt (6 mph, 9 km/h). Hurricane force winds extend up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center of Isaac, and tropical storm force winds up to 175 miles (280 km) from the center.

Track of Tropical Storm Isaac

The National Hurricane Center began tracking a tropical wave off the coast of Africa on August 17.

It started to become more concentrated on August 18, with further organization beginning later that day as it headed into favorable environmental conditions for development.

The circulation continued to intensify in the next couple of days. After acquiring more deep convection, the National Hurricane Center classified the wave as a tropical depression on August 21 at 5:00 a.m. AST (0900 UTC). It was upgraded to Tropical Storm Isaac at 5:00 p.m. AST (2100 UTC) August 21.

As of 4 p.m. CDT (2100 UTC) August 27, Tropical Storm Isaac (09L) is located within 15 nautical miles of 26.1°N 85.9°W, about 255 mi (410 km) south-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida and about 280 mi (450 km) southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Maximum sustained winds are 55 knots (65 mph, 100 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 984 mbar (hPa; 29.06 InHg), and the system is moving northwest at 12 kt (14 mph, 22 km/h). Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km) from the center of Isaac.
