Sediments in King Sound and White Sands Beaches, Australia

18S 122.2E

April 11th, 2011 Category: Sediments

Australia - March 31st, 2011

Tan sediments from rivers such as the Fitzroy River spill into King Sound, a large gulf in northern Western Australia. It expands from the mouth of the Fitzroy, one of Australia’s largest watercourses, and opens to the Indian Ocean.

Moving westward along the coast, several white sands beaches can be observed. The longest of these is Eighty Mile Beach, so-named for its length, stretching beyond the bottom left corner of the image.
