Smoke Over West Africa - March 17th, 2012

A thick cloud of smoke hangs over southwestern Africa, obscuring virtually all of the land in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin (from left to right) below. Eosnap first observed fires in this region two days ago, (click here for a previous image of the fires), near the border of Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea.

This smoke is perhaps mixed with some of the dust that has been blowing over the region over the last few days  (click here for previous images). In the full image, Lake Volta, in Ghana, is partially visible through the smoky veil.
