Two large islands can be observed in this image of eastern Canada. The smaller of the two is Anticosti Island, located at the outlet of the Saint Lawrence River into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, in Quebec.

The larger of the two, situated by the right edge, is Newfoundland, located 15 km off the east coast of North America, and the most populous part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Crossing the upper part of the image is the Churchill River. It flows towards into Lake Melville, which is frozen and appears white in this image.

Anticosti Island (French, Île d’Anticosti), visible in the upper left corner, is an island at the outlet of the Saint Lawrence River into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, in Quebec, Canada. Southeast of the island, out over in the Atlantic Ocean, a large cloud vortex can be observed.

At 7,892.52 km2 (3,047.32 sq mi) in size, it is the 90th largest island in the world and 20th largest island in Canada. Anticosti Island is separated on the north from the Côte-Nord region of Quebec (the Labrador Peninsula) by the Jacques Cartier Strait and on the south from the Gaspé Peninsula by the Honguedo Strait.
