A zone of irrigated fields can be seen in northern Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jawf province, on the edge of the Arabian Desert.

In the lower half of the image, areas of mountains and volcanoes can be seen, particularly in the Madinah Province. Lava flows appear as dark brown stains on the landscape.

The full version of this orthorectified image stretches from Najran Province in Saudi Arabia (above) to the Al Jawf governorate of Yemen (below).

The high rows of sand dunes of the Rub’ al Khali Desert appear as long parallel lines. To the south, the escarpment of Yemen’s western highlands can be seen.
