Spain and Portugal - June 30th, 2010

Northern Portugal (lower left quadrant) and parts of northwestern Spain (remainder of image) can be observed here. The north-south border between the two countries is located just south of the spot where the jagged western coastline becomes smooth.

The vertical east-west border between the two is located near the center of the image. Alluvial plains are found along the coast, while most of the rest of the Iberian Peninsula is dominated by high plateaus and mountain ranges. Here, coastal areas appear green, while areas further inland appear drier and reddish tan in color.
