Mountains near Northern California coast - November 30th, 2008

We can see here the white sands of the northern California coastline as well as the white snow of the North Coast Mountain Ranges. A light phytoplankton bloom is visible off the coast.

The North Coast Ranges run parallel to the Pacific Coast from north of San Francisco Bay to the South Fork Mountains.

The seaward face of the coastal mountains is part of the Northern California coastal forests ecoregion, home to lush forests of Coast Redwood and Coast Douglas-fir.
