Moroccan Coast, from Essaouira to Agadir30.4N 9.5W
This stretch of Moroccan coastline stretches from north of Essaouira (above) to south of Agadir (below). Sandy beaches and warm winter temperatures help make both cities popular tourist destinations. Further inland, the terrain slopes upward into the Atlas Mountains.
Essaouira is protected by a natural bay, partially shielded by wave action by the Iles Purpuraires. A broad sandy beach extends from the harbour south of Essaourira, at which point the Oued Ksob discharges to the ocean.
The city of Agadir is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, near the foot of the Atlas Mountains, just north of the point where the Souss River flows into the ocean.
