Los Angeles from the Mountains to the Sea, USA
This image shows two of the mountains ranges surrounding the Los Angeles Basin and the city of Los Angeles.
At the top of the image a small part of the San Gabriel Mountains are visible, as is the western section of the Santa Ana Mountains, on the right.
Moving south, the San Pedro Bay and the Pacific Ocean can be seen. By opening the full image it is possible to observe an interesting effect visible only by radar: the sea surface imprint of the clouds above, caused by the winds and variations in atmospheric pressure.
The full image also shows the grid pattern of Los Angeles’ streets; mainthoroughfares are seen as thicker black lines whereas smaller streets appear dark grey.
The port area appears bright white. Just offshore, a lot of ships are visible as white dots.
