Italy - August 27th, 2010

The Italian Peninsula and the nearby islands of Corsica (France), and Sardinia and Sicily (Italy) occupy the upper half of this image. The lower half is occupied by Tunisia (center), with northeastern Algeria to its west and northwestern Libya to its east.

The coastline of Algeria along the Mediterranean Sea shows some fertile green terrain, while most of the land to the south is arid desert, including sand dune seas at the very bottom of the full image. The Italian Peninsula, on the other hand, shows mostly fertile green terrain, although some areas at its southern extent appear drier.
