Islands in the Aegean and Sea of Crete, Greece and Turkey
The Aegean Sea (above) and the Sea of Crete (below), between mainland Greece (left) and Turkey (right) are dotted with thousands of islands. The largest of these is Crete (bottom left corner), belonging to Greece.
The section of mainland Turkey visible here is part of the countyr’s Aegean Region, one of the 7 census-defined regions of Turkey. Several ridges of mountains, some of which are capped with snow, can be observed in the region.
