Ice in the Gulf of Riga, Estonia and Latvia57.5N 23.5E
Ice covers the eastern half of the Gulf of Riga, a large gulf of the Baltic Sea, bounded by the northern coast of Latvia and the western coast of Estonia.
The rest of the 7,000 sq mi- (18,000 sq km-)gulf also appears whitish in color due to cloud cover. In the full image, cracks can be discerned in the ice, and the ice and clouds can be more readily distinguished. The gulf generally remains icebound from December until April.
