Ice Around Akimiski Island in Frozen James Bay, Canada52.9N 81.3W
James Bay, part of the larger Hudson Bay, is covered in ice in this winter image of Canada. The land west of the bay belongs to the province of Ontario (visible in the thumbnail), while that to the east is part of Quebec (see full image).
While there is an apparently uniform sheet of ice around Akimiski Island and the bay’s western shoreline, the ice further out into the bay is cracked. In the full image, several frozen rivers can also be observed leading to the bay.
