Located in the center of La Palma, one of the volcanic islands belonging to the Canary Islands, is the Caldera de Taburiente. This orthorectified image gives a fine view of this  large caldera, which has a width of 9 kilometers and a depth of 1500 meters.

The caldera is surrounded by mountain peaks reaching elevations of between 1600 and 2400 meters. In contrast to these mountains is the deep canyon known as Barranco de las Angustias (Valley of Fear), which stretches between the caldera itself and the shoreline.
