Sediments in Términos Lagoon and Popcorn Clouds Over Mexico

18.6N 91.5W

March 26th, 2012 Category: Clouds, Sediments

Mexico - March 11th, 2012

Sediments and algae color the Términos Lagoon, on the coast of Mexico, a greenish hue. Sediments can be seen seeping out of the lagoon and lining the shores in the region, which is located by the base of the Yucatán Peninsula.

Visible over the peninsula are small, puffy, dotted clouds known as popcorn clouds. These tend to appear over vegetated areas where high levels of photosynthesis are taking place, releasing water vapor into the air around which the clouds form.
