Cape York Peninsula is a large remote peninsula located in Far North Queensland at the tip of the state of Queensland, Australia. The west coast borders the Gulf of Carpentaria and the east coast borders the Coral Sea.

Here, sediments can be seen along the peninsula’s west coast, in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The east coast bordering the Coral Sea, however, is lined by vertebra-like segments of the Great Barrier Reef.
