The Danube River Crossing the Romanian Plain44.4N 26.1E
As the Danube River (center) runs across the Romanian Plain in southern Romania, it receives water from numerous tributaries flowing down from the Southern Carpathian Mountains (above). Upon opening the full image, the country’s capital, Bucharest, appears as a grey area on the right.
The land above the Danube is mostly swamp and marshland, while many fields can be seen south of river. In fact, 41% of the land in Romania is arable. Permanent crops account for 3%, and permanent pastures cover 21%.
