Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. The city proper is home to more than 1.2 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 1.9 million.

Prague is situated along the River Vltava in the center of the Bohemian basin and spread over nine hills. In this orthorectified image, the path of the river is clearly seen, particularly where it bisects the white color of the city.

The Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic, with a length of 430 km a drainage area of about 28,090 km2. It runs north from its source in Šumava, through Český Krumlov, České Budějovice, and Prague, and merges with the River Elbe at Mělník.
