Sediments spill from the mouth of the Nelson River into Hudson Bay, in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The river’s full length is 2575 km, and it has mean discharge of 2370 m3/s.

With a drainage basin of 892300 km2, of which 180000 km is in the United States, the river drains Lake Winnipeg and runs 644 km across the Canadian Shield before it ends in Hudson Bay.
