South Africa and Namibia - March 5th, 2010

The landscape of southern Africa includes orange, green and brown tones from geographical features including the Namib Desert (upper left quadrant) and the Kalahari Desert (east and northeast of the former). South of these two extremely arid zones is the Orange River, surrounded by a green valley best observed in the full image.

The image stretches from Namibia (upper left quadrant) to Botswana (upper right quadrant) and through South Africa (below). The area of Botswana that can be seen belongs to the district of Kgalagadi in the southwest of the country, lying along the border with Namibia and South Africa. Kgalagadi covers a vast area of the Kalahari Desert.
