The confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers near the city of St. Louis can be observed near the center of this image of the USA.
The Mississippi River flows down from the center of the top edge, while the Missouri Rivers comes in from the left edge. The river east of the Mississippi is the Illinois River.
Much of the area is a fertile and gently rolling prairie that features low hills and broad, shallow valleys. Both the Mississippi River and the Missouri River have cut large valleys with wide flood plains.
