Mediterranean Shoreline of Libya and Egypt

31.5N 24.7E

August 9th, 2010 Category: Rivers

Egypt and Libya - August 4th, 2010

Most of the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea visible here, in Libya (left) and Egypt (right), appear free of sediments. The exception is the area by the fertile green Nile River Delta, near the right edge.

The sediments are carried northward by the Nile River, past the Faiyum Oasis (south of the delta and west of the river), past Cairo (visible in the full image as a greyish area near the shoreline), and into the sea.
