Kemerovo  (upper left quadrant of this orthorectified image) is an industrial city in Russia, situated on the Tom River, east-northeast of Novosibirsk. It is the administrative center of Kemerovo Oblast in the major coal mining region of the Kuznetsk Basin.

The Tom River is a right tributary of the Ob River. Its length is 871 km. Its source is in the Abakan mountains (a northern continuation of the Altay Mountains), and it flows northward through the Kuznetsk Basin. It flows into the Ob approximately 50 km north of Tomsk.
