The Indus River runs diagonally through this orthorectified ASAR (radar) image of northwestern Pakistan. The flat area along the river is part of Punjab Province, which is mainly a fertile region along river valleys.

The mountainous ridges arching through the left side of the image are part of the North West Frontier Province. The province is largely located on the Iranian Plateau. The ridges visible here mark the peripheral junction between the Indian subcontinent and the Eurasian plate.
