Headlands and Rivers Along South Africa’s Coastline33.5S 26.8E
This image focuses on the southeastern coast of South Africa. Visible near the lower left edge is Cape St. Francis, situated on a headland in the Eastern Cape Province.
Moving eastward, the next large headland is Cape Recife, on which Port Elizabeth, one of the largest cities in South Africa, is located. The city stretches for 16 km along Algoa Bay, and is one of the major seaports in South Africa. Algoa Bay is a wide inlet bounded to the west by Cape Recife and to the east by Cape Padrone.
In the full image, various rivers can be seen flowing to the coast. The first three, starting from Cape Padrone and moving northeast, are Bushman’s River, Kowie River (by the city of Port Alfred) and the Great Fish River.
